Don’t be afraid to fail!

“Unless you’re not pushing yourself, you’re not living to the fullest. You can’t be afraid to fail, but unless you fail, you haven’t pushed hard enough.” ~ Dean Karnazes

Today’s quote is from Dean Karnazes one of the most inspiring people out there. He is another hero of mine! If you have never read his book “Ultra marathon man” you need to! Dean’s story is amazing.

“Unless you’re not pushing yourself, you’re not living to the fullest” wow think about that part? Unless you don’t challenge yourself each day, get outside of the box out of your comfort zone you are not living life to its fullest. You need to open up and take on new challenges be open to explore and not get caught living in your safe little box. Life is a gift and one that should not be wasted so don’t waste your life being safe and boring. Use your life pushing yourself and taking it to the limits.

“You can’t be afraid to fail, but unless you fail, you have not pushed hard enough”
I love that!! as an endurance athlete but really in life its self if we are afraid to fail then we will always play things safe and never really push ourselves or get out of that box to live life to its fullest like in the first part of the quote. We can’t be afraid to fail because when we fail it makes us stronger, when we fail it teaches us things about ourselves and as we fail we know we pushed ourselves hard and were chasing living life to its fullest. Again as an endurance athlete and even as someone who has taken many risks in life. My life is a crazy story full of chasing dreams and passions. I worked in the music business for years starting my own company and always chasing after things. I failed numerous times but I also did very well and learned from those failed attempts. As a Pro-fisherman traveling on bass tours I took a lot of risks I put a lot of faith into myself trying to win tournaments etc… I failed many times but I also had many moments when my gambles paid off and I had success. Then now as an endurance athlete if I would have never taken that first step of getting back into running and failing on that first run with my friend maybe I would have never found that desire and passion to live life to its fullest and take on that first marathon. And then during my first marathon when I did fail and struggle I got right back up and said I’m doing this again I can do this and do this better. Every day when I train when I race I run the risk of failing but I know that if I don’t push my limits if I am not afraid then my chances of success are great. But if I am afraid and I don’t try or don’t give it my all and risk that crash and burn moment then I did not live life and I failed before I even started.

We all look at failing as this scary bad thing, when really failing can be turned around and made into a positive. The most successful people in the world failed many times before they finally nailed it and became a success. So get up each day and go out and fail! Go out and live life! And one day you will say I lived a full exciting live! One with many bumps but also one with many high notes from all the wisdom learned of failing along the way.

Cheers

Ironman taper: yesterday I got in a solid 60 minute ride on my trainer it was a power set really pushing a lot of watts on that bike, then had a great 6.2 mile run and the legs were feeling awesome!
Today Tuesday the workout is teaching a 60 minute cycle class followed up by 30-45 minutes in the pool
