2012 Race Season preview

2012 Race season kicks off!

2012 has been here for a couple months and training is going very well. But I have not raced anything. That all changes this Sunday when I head to ST Paul to run in the Human Race 8k which is the first event of the USATF Team circuit. I’m uncertain what to expect from this race because I won’t taper this week and I’ll be doing a 22 mile training run the day before but still I’ll go out and give it a go and see if I can score points for the team.

Here is my upcoming race season so far:

March 18th Human Race 8k
April 16th Boston Marathon
April 28th Get in Gear 10k USATF Team circuit race
May 17th TC 1 Mile USATF Team circuit
May 28th Brian Kraft 5k USATF Team circuit
June 10th Ironman 70.3 Kansas
June 16th Lake Minnetonka Triathlon (Sprint)
July 14th MPLS Triathlon (Olympic distance)
July 18th Torchlight 5k USATF Team circuit
September 2nd 5150 National Championships (Olympic distance) Triathlon
October 7th Chicago Marathon
November 18th Ironman Arizona (140.6 miles of fun!)

Those are the events I am registered for right now and there will be more to come. Just need to decide what they are? Ironman Arizona is my focus race for the season everything else is just prep for that event. I will hope to race well and hard in Boston and of course 70.3 Kansas I’m going for it but otherwise it’s get ready for Ironman!! Actually the 5150 National Championships in Des Moines is an A race and one I have a lot of focus on at the end of summer. I qualified for this event last year and got a free entry for it and plan to kick some butt in my home town!! This is the best event I have ever done really top notch and a lot of fun.

I’m really looking forward to watching my 9 year old daughter compete all season long as well in 5k races like the Get in Gear and the Brian Kraft as well as in her Triathlons! She qualified for the National Championships Triathlon last season on the Ironkids circuit and she has her eye on that again as she will compete in a few more of those events this season.

The weather has been nice here in Minnesota and I’m itching to race and compete!

See you out on the road and at the races!

Monday night was a killer speed workout! Got 11 miles of running in and did mile repeats. Had a 5 mile warm-up around 6:35 pace then did 3 x 1 mile at above 5k pace on a 1 mile loop that had two tough little hills in it. I went 5:15, 5:17, 5:16 then did a 4th mile of 30 fast, 30 recovery over and over until the mile was complete and that mile was a 5:28. I felt great and could have pushed those mile repeats faster but just held at a comfort zone.
Today legs were tired and I did two easy runs. 5 miles in the morning at 6:50 type pace and then 4 miles in the evening leading the social run at Life Time Fitness at like 9 minute pace

It’s some hill running in the morning and some tempo running tomorrow afternoon should be fun. Might even sneak a swim in.
